Introduction
The Oregon State Prison was opened in 1851 and had a capacity of 2,242 souls. The prison is the oldest in the state, and it only consist of males. There was a study done on the inmates between the 1940s through the early 1970s. The government funded the study, which was done by Dr. C. Alvin Paulsen, because there was a concern with the radiation if in the event of a nuclear explosion. Inmates within the prison received compensation for their participation within the study.
